Stefan Palzer, Nestlé Research Center, Switzerland
Stefan holds a PhD in Process Engineering, a Habilitation (venia legendi) in Chemical Engineering from Technical University of Munich and an MBA from the University of Hagen. Prior he performed an apprenticeship, worked in the beverage industry and studied food engineering at the Technical University of Munich.
In 2000 he joined Nestlé as project manager and was appointed in 2006 manager of the technology department in the Global Product Technology Centre for culinary products in Singen/Germany. In 2007, Stefan became Head of the Food Science Department at the Nestlé Research Center where he was responsible for a team of 120 scientists and technicians.
From 2010 to 2013 he was managing director of the Global Product Technology Centre for Confectionery in York/UK (180 staff). In 2013 Stefan was appointed R&D director for Nestlé´s large beverage business consisting of well known global coffee, tea and juices brands. In 2015 he was also appointed Nestlé Fellow (highest scientific position in the company). Since 2016 he is director of the Nestlé Research Centre in Lausanne where he leads a team of more than 550 researchers.
Stefan is professor at the University of Hamburg/Germany, he is visiting professor at The University of Sheffield/UK and honorary professor at the Universit of Stuttgart Hohenheim/Germany.
Stefan has authored 100 publications (75 peer reviewed articles and book chapters) and is an inventor of 42 patents.
